The Embassy’s role in regard of Consular matters is two-fold: 1. to safeguard the interests of Fiji nationals abroad 2. to facilitate immigration formalities for visitors to Fiji through close liaison with the Immigration Department in Fiji.

The Embassy processes visitors’ visas to Fiji. Work permits, and permits for filming and other productions are processed directly by the immigration department, and applicants are asked to apply directly for these latter cases.

Work Permits Permits to enter and reside or to enter reside and work in Fiji may be issued on application made to the Director of Immigration, Government Buildings, Suva, Fiji. The application form, which costs $5.00 each, is available at the Immigration Office in Suva, Nadi and Lautoka.

POLICY ON RESIDENCE PERMIT ON ASSURED INCOME A residence permit on assured income may be issued to a person who has assets, realizable to the satisfaction of the Director of Immigration, outside the Fiji Islands at his/her disposal of an amount sufficient to ensure that he/she will not become a charge on public funds. Permits in this category are normally issued to people who are not likely to apply to work in the Fiji Islands. They may invest in any business venture approved by the Fiji Islands Trade and Investment Bureau.

Academic year: February to November Organisation of higher education system: Higher education is provided mainly by the University of the South Pacific which serves ten English-speaking territories. It is financed by fees, by funds from the Fiji Government and other territories, and by aid from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom. Other institutions of higher education are the Fiji School of Medicine, the Fiji Institute of Technology and the Western Division Technical Centre, the Fiji School of Agriculture and teacher-training colleges.
